Liberal Democrat response to the latest consultation on extending Heathrow

Microsoft Office Document
Uploaded at 4.48.36pm GMT Thu 13th Mar 2008

We consider that the arguments set forth in the Department for Transport's (DfT) 2007 Consultation, Adding Capacity at Heathrow, fail to address the core concerns about the economic, environmental and social impacts of expansion. The Liberal Democrats are not persuaded by the predominantly economic arguments used by the DfT to justify expansion as they pay too little regard to the full impact that expansion could have on climate change, (including economic impacts), noise levels and air quality. Moreover, we are concerned about the breadth and robustness of the government's consultation and note that the language used has been criticised as being impenetrable. We therefore continue to oppose any further expansion at Heathrow or the relaxation of the current operational restrictions.

Response to the informal consultation on keeping the Western extension of the CC zone

Microsoft Office Document
Uploaded at 4.17.59pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 3rd Oct 2008

The Liberal Democrat group at the London Assembly have always opposed the Western extension of the original Central Zone of the Congestion Charging Scheme, and the Liberal Democrat manifesto in the 2008 Mayoral and Assembly elections re-affirmed our opposition. We therefore wish to remove the Western extension. The document outlines our detailed response to the consultation.
